Thanatos è una delle Divinità giocabili in SMITE.
Folklore[ | ]
Inevitabilmente, tutti i mortali devono morire. Essi si aggrappano alla vita con disperazione, pieni di paura, poiché la morte è un freddo luogo sconosciuto, pieno di incertezze e di una fine fredda e infinita. Alcuni accettano il destino con grazia, altri devono essere trascinati, urlanti e scalcianti, anche se, in verità, nessun mortale andrebbe mai da Ade spontaneamente. Essi sono raccolti dall' incubizzante dio della morte, il cui viso truce sembra strano in confronto alla grande soddisfazione che egli prova nel compiere il suo lavoro. Tanato è la vera faccia della morte. Però, per Tanato, i mortali sono facili prede. La loro fine è già stata scritta, raccoglierli non è altro che un gioco per passare gli eoni, ma un Dio, un essere oltre la comprensione umana, ora è la creatura su cui gli occhi di Tanato sì sono posati con avidità. Egli disprezza l'immortalità che gli altri dei invece bramano. A lui sembra solo una perversione e una ribellione verso il suo scopo. Ma può un Dio morire veramente? Mentre i cieli si scontrano e scorre il sangue immortale sulla terra, Tanato muore dalla voglia di scoprirlo. La guerra non è altro che il preambolo della morte, un campo di battaglia di anime strappate dai loro corpi, che non aspettano altro che di essere prese dal dio della morte. Una guerra tra gli dei, una guerra di tale magnitudine può significare solo una cosa. Tanato sarà sicuramente molto molto impegnato.

- Thanatos' Jack the Reaper skin is a reference to the infamous British serial killer Jack The Ripper, and the urban legend Headless Horseman mixed with the traditional Jack-o'-lantern.
- One of Thanatos' jokes, "Don't look into the deadlights!" is a reference to the horror novel It by Stephen King.
- One of Thanatos' death quotes, "Death is but a door, time is but a window, I'll be back..", is a reference to Vigo the Carpathian from the movie Ghostbusters II.
- One of Archon Thanatos' jokes, "One does not simply walk into the enemy titan!", is an altered version of a famous quote made by the character Boromir in the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
