Cupid è una delle Divinità giocabili in SMITE.
Folklore[ | ]
Una sola freccia scoccata dall’arco di Cupido, piccolo e paffuto Dio dell’Amore, fa abbondanare chiunque alla passione e al desiderio. Cupido, come era chiamato dai Romani, è il figlio di Venere e Marte, o di Afrodite e Ares, come erano conosciuti in Grecia. Egli è il Dio dell’amore e del desiderio, svolazzante con le sue ali piumate, scoccando frecce intrise di passione verso tutte le creature della Terra. Quando sono colpiti da una delle sue frecce, uomini e bestie s’innamorano egualmente della prima cosa che vedono. Senza la ferma mira di Cupido, non ci sarebbe amore in questo mondo, che è precisamente ciò che successe quando lo stesso Cupido si innamorò. Psiche era una mortale dalla bellezza sconcertante, e ciò rendeva Venere invidiosa in maniera incontrollabile. Così la Dea ordinò a Cupido di colpirla con una freccia, e poi lei avrebbe fatto in modo che Psiche s’innamorasse di un ragno. Invisibile, Cupido riluttante raggiunse Psiche mentre dormiva, ma ella si svegliò improvvisamente e riuscì a vederlo nonostante l’invisibilità. Sorpreso, Cupido si tagliò con una delle sue frecce e s’innamorò immediatamente di Psiche. Furiosa, Venere non permise a Cupido di sposare Psiche, così questo smise di scoccare le sue frecce, le persone smisero d’innamorarsi e di adorare Venere. In preda al panico, la Dea della Bellezza ritrattò subito e Cupido ritornò al lavoro. Psiche venne rapita e portata in un luogo segreto. Cupido la andava a trovare solo di notte in modo che non lo potesse riconoscere. Avendo paura che si trattasse di un orribile mostro, Psiche aspettò che Cupido si fosse addormentato per poterlo vedere alla luce della lanterna. Sorpresa da ciò che vide, per sbaglio si graffiò con una delle frecce di Cupido e se ne innamorò. Venere ne fu contrariata e vietò a Psiche di vedere suo figlio, costringendola a compiere una serie di imprese impossibili a cui Psiche riuscì a far fronte solo con un aiuto mistico. Alla fine, Cupido pregò Giove d’intervenire. In modo spiccio, egli dichiarò che Psiche e Cupido avrebbero potuto stare insieme. Così, Cupido diede a Psiche una coppa di ambrosia in modo da renderla immortale e il Dio dell’Amore visse felice e contento.
